Dog Skin Condition...?

I have a 3 year old fawn colored pitbull who has never had an sort of allergies or skin conditions, she is in great health...She has developed small scabs all over her skin, under her coat...she doesn't scratch or itch and it doesn't seem to be bothering her...but when I look at her skin by pulling her hair in the opposite direction, I can see the scabs, like if she had chicken poxs and then they scabbed over..the scabs are not bad at all there is no puss or anything like that...it looks mild...She is not loosing any hair at all either...Any ideas what she has?

Thanks

Dog Skin Condition...?
Definitely needs a trip to the vet. Things that pop into my mind are a staph infection (generally starts due to some kind of allergy then bacteria moves in causing the pustules), mange (two different kinds), ringworm, general poor nutrition, fleas... Only your vet can tell you for sure and prescribe treatment.
Reply:it may be dangerous so conslut with your vet.
Reply:Go see your vet! Than if you vet says it's nothing dangerous it could be a food allergy. Try to get a senstive skin food. It's go more vitamine E and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which are good for the skin. Your vet will probly recomend one for you!
Reply:I would recommend a trip to the vet, he/she can examine the skin and see if there is a need for medication or recommend a special shampoo to bathe your dog with. Good Luck.

THROAT: faulty functioning of the flap of skin involved in swallowing &breathing...what conditions due to this

....can also affect a persons perception or awareness?

i had problems of this kind a number of year ago, and as well as acid reflux and a feeling of too much air in the lungs [like when you gulp down lucozade or fizzy drinks and the excess gas builds up and you want to burp to relieve the pressure] along with this came a weird feeling of reality being distorted so that people and objects seemed flatter and less three dimentional.

what might be the cause, and does this description coincide with a definate medical condition you know of?

the problem i had has never totally gone away, but seems to have been dormant for a good while.

it is not difficult to breathe IN, but something in the throat feels very retricted and pressured, and you cant seem expell or burp away the feeling of trapped air.

i dont know anything about physiology...is there one flap of skin that channels whats in-coming and out-going or R there 2 flaps: one for/to the lungs %26amp; one for/to the stomach?

THROAT: faulty functioning of the flap of skin involved in swallowing %26amp;breathing...what conditions due to this
The epiglottis closes off your lungs to food and drink and the pyloric sphincter closes off your stomach from your esophagus. If you have had reflux then the pyloric sphincter can get scarred and not open and close all the way. The epiglottis is a different story though. It usually gets scarred from alot of vomiting like with bulimia. These can be stretched back out with a procedure called an EGD. You should really be seeing a gastroenterologist for answers and treatment.
Reply:i think u should go to a doctor it would be the best thing to do
Reply:sounds like a trip to the doctor is in order. Write down your questions ahead of time so you don't forget to ask anything.
Reply:The flap of skin that you keep mentioning is known as "epiglottis".Its function is to close the trachea or air passage when one swallows food,so that the food does not enter into the air passage causing pneumo-thorax or collapse of lungs.Your problems seems to stem from your glottis.Better get your self examined by an ENT Specialist.

Your symptom is closest to dysphagia. My bet would be on a diffuse muscular problem like chronic reflux esophagitis, or an esophageal web http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esophageal_... or .

You really need to get an upper endoscopy (esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy, or EGD). Contact a gastroenterologist or have your physician refer you to one.

You've already passed one useful (but dumb) test: the test of time (TOT). Since you're still alive, your symptoms are probably not due to anything gruesome like esophageal cancer or scleroderma. The TOT is a hell of a way to rule out lethal causes of a symptom - wait and see if you die* (also reliable for testing mushroms). But since you already took and passed the test, we might as well notice.

The closest thing to a flap separating the airway and esophagus is the larynx http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larynx, disease of which can also cause dysphagia. Ear, nose and throat doctors specialize in this region.

(*but your HMO approves of your choice to keep it to yourself. TOT is the treatment of choice by HMOs for initial screening of all expensive illnesses)

Dysphagia - The sensation of difficulty swallowing. This is a disorder of esophageal transport and is a symptom of an underlying process. The problem is commonly divided into oropharyngeal and esophageal types.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Oropharyngeal type

• Choking with swallowing

• Coughing with swallowing

• Weak voice

• Aspiration pneumonia

• Weight loss

Esophageal type

• Pressure sensation in mid-chest (patient may localize pathology to correct anatomic site)

• Symptoms should distinguish whether dysphagia is for solids or liquids or both

• Aspiration pneumonia

• Weight loss

• Symptoms of GERD

• Longer time required to eat meals (patient unconsciously chews food more thoroughly)

CAUSES:

In children

• Malformations - congenital (esophageal atresia, choanal atresia)

• Malformations - acquired (corrosive or herpetic esophagitis)

• Neuromuscular/neurologic - delayed maturation, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease

In adults

• Structural - tumors (cancer or benign), strictures (peptic, chemical, trauma, radiation), rings %26amp; webs, extrinsic compression (goiter)

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease

• Neuromuscular - achalasia, diffuse esophageal spasm, scleroderma, myasthenia gravis

Is it ok to put oil onto horses dry flakey skin in tropical conditions like Thailand??

I have been helping with some horses in Thailand which have terrible skin problems. The almost dont have any fur left. The skin is dry, flakey and I am sure quite itchy for them.I started to treat them with a medicated shampoo, fungacide, for ringworm and dermatities etc. but the owner of the horses decided to then put cooking oil onto the horses skin.I told him that I did not think it a good idea but he said that the vet here in Thailand said that they use oil on all of the horses in troical Thailand.Anybody heard of this in other Asian countries????

Is it ok to put oil onto horses dry flakey skin in tropical conditions like Thailand??
I have used baby oil on my horses before, but there is a better product, called MTG. It really depends on what the dry flakes are caused by. IF it is just dry skin, then baby oil is fine. But if it is a fungus, rain rot or something similiar, you want to treat and get rid of the Fungus. Is she losing her coat as well as having flakes?
Reply:I haven't heard of it in tropical places, but I do know of some people who use it here (US) on their horses. The oil is worth a try- it is commonly used on reptiles and I don't see why it wouldn't help the same type of problems in horses.

Basically, it works like a lotion. Aloe vera gel (diluted form of the plant) I know can work if that is readily available.

Medicated shampoos usually only dry out the skin more while treating the fungal problems, so you would want to stop using that.

If the owner suggested cooking oil, I would massage it in one section on their skin and see if it helps at all. Make sure that it isn't attracting more insects or causing any other problems. If you have another suggestion, try that on another patch of skin and see which one works better.

In the US there is something called MTG (Mane Tail Groom) that is a sulfur based product. It smells awful but you see results within a couple week- it will get rid of every skin problem I have ever used it on (even the ones the vet's medicine would not work on), and the hair grows back faster than with any other thing I have used.

Here is a link describing it- maybe you have something similar in Thailand:

http://www.shapleys.com/products/index.h...
Reply:i wouldn't think this is a good idea. i know a lot of people who use cooking oil to tan quicker by putting it on their skin because the sun rays magnify as they pass through the oil. i would have thought the oil could cause the sun to burn the horses skin. i used to put palmers body butter(for people) on my arab as he used to get dry skin and it worked really good. maybe the oil is slightly different in thailand but im sure the vet knows what he's doing.
Reply:You can add a few tablespoons of oil to their grain which will help with the dry skin. Be careful though, too much will cause them to get the diarrhea!

It really sounds like they have fungal infections, considering the climate. The oil on their coats will only trap the fungus, and will do NOTHING to get rid of it. It might actually make it worse.
Reply:Use a little bit of mineral oil in the grain...not too much. Also, Flax seed is really good for a horses coat. You would put about a handfull of it in the feed

cooking oil DOES work i come from a long line of showing horses and we use baby oil sometimes but cooking oil does work for us
Reply:What the? Yes you should use a fungacide if you have acess to "Simple Green" this works great, when you bath them use a low suds soap (as this will dry out their skin.) rinse with simple green all over, then in the final rinse try putting a little olive oil in the water. it should help. but not cooking oil all over gosh this will just make everything stick to them and not allow their coat to heal.

Discribe how you would recognise the following BODY skin types/conditions?

normal, blemished, male, dry, sensitive, dehydrated, mature.

Discribe how you would recognise the following BODY skin types/conditions?
Blemished - scarred or pock marked skin as a result of acne or spots and pimples.

Normal - healthy and fresh looking skin.

Male - That would be obvious, just check if it's, err, a bloke.

Dry - Blotchy, red, sore-looking or flaky skin areas.

Sensitive - Easily damaged by certain ingredients, possible allergic reactions.

Dehydrated - Burst capillaries, red patches, dry skin, red nose.

Mature - The person is over 40.

Does exposure to "frying fumes"aggravate skin wounds/conditions?

In the rain-forests of Burma where I grew up,they have a specific term for exposure to 'frying fumes' (ahnyaw). And,persons sufferring from open sores avoid it like plague. As the kitchens, atleast during my childhood, were rather primitive(wood-burning stoves,poor/no ventilation) frying any food would fill the house with smell/fumes.And,the elders would tell the sufferrers-- -if any--- to leave the house so as to avoid the fumes.Superstition it was NOT:the veracity of the observation could be replicated any number of times.

This is linked to my earlier Question :why do we feel extreme discomfort seeing/hearing a glass-sheet being scratched with finger nails? The Burmese have a name for this feeling too:"twa kyin". Can one conclude that the English language lacks certain specific concepts!Hence the absence of words to define these ??concepts?

Does exposure to "frying fumes"aggravate skin wounds/conditions?
These conditions alter your own temperature, and damage your lungs and skin.

At least do something relaxing after this hard activity and try to clean your body doing sport.

About your nails, you need special attention by a doctor.

take care.
Reply:yup a the engles only have one word for snow, when there are several different qualities of snow, at least 21. so the answer is yes, yet we have lotsa words about making money.

What conditions does skin absorb best in??

this osunds reallyy stupid best ive just thought whether skin will absorb things like creams better when its cold or warm...no idea if there's any proof around this but just wonderring if anybody knew anything about it?

What conditions does skin absorb best in??
Your skin will absorbs better when it is warm or when you use warm water before applying creams. It is because warm opens up your skin pores unlike cold that closes it. Hope that gives you idea. Good Luck!

How can I lower my risk of skin cancer or other skin related conditions?

After years of preventing sunburns and taking good care of my skin because I'm well-informed about the damage the sun does to it, I still got a severe sunburn from a terrible mistake of overexposure to the sun damaging rays. Now I'm really worried because my risks of getting skin cancer or other skin diseases is pretty high since I have a grandfather with skin cancer, an aunt with psoriasis, and another aunt with lupus.

The sunburn I got was real bad, at first it was red and occassionally I experienced some chills. After a few days blisters appeared and then all the skin peeled off. The damaged skin was on my thighs, my belly, my chest and a little bit of the forearms.

Please let me know how I can, if its possible, to lower my risk of skin cancer or other skin diseases in addition to the basic one of staying out of the sun and don't forgetting sunblock.

Thanks a lot!

How can I lower my risk of skin cancer or other skin related conditions?
I was looking for relevant questions to answer and I saw yours. Usually I don't bother with questions that already have several answers but you have been unlucky so far, with one sensible answer and two bad ones.

You know already about sunblock. About the rest: your skin has enzymes that have already repaired the damaged DNA. True, some mutations may have occurred but that does not mean that cancer will happen. Maybe, as you and your cells age, mutations will accumulate and lack of cell control of cell division will happen in one or two cells, leading to cancer. What to do?

1) Use sunblock to decrease the danger of further damage to DNA

2) Use antioxidants, to trap free radicals before they do damage

3) Avoid chemicals that produce free radicals, such as benzoyl peroxide, very common in anti-acne products

4) See a dermatologist if you see any strange looking moles on your skin.

Apart from that, don't be scared, because being scared is not very useful and it is just another way of wasting your time.

Good luck and best wishes

Wrong direction is going further away from the connection as to how you are related to the whole universe. This site has nothing to do with religion although many will say it is Hinduism. The whole idea is to expand your consciousness until it reaches that level from which "miracles" happen.

Not blind faith because blind faith works without allowing expanding your own consciousness on the nature of the universe.

Are there any relation between chronic skin inflammatory conditions & skin cancer ?

i've heard that chronic inflammation of the skin (such as: seborrheic dermatitis) can be the cause of some types of skin cancers , is that true ??

Are there any relation between chronic skin inflammatory conditions %26amp; skin cancer ?
I think it's possible.

My pathophysiology teacher said body tissue or organs that have had chronic disease or major injuries are more likely to later develop cancer.

How do you stop from getting pimples on your but and under the arms? Certain soaps different skin conditions?

y is it that i dont have any body acne for a while then in 1 fell swoop i find that i get acne on my rear end and under my arms and how can i avoid the breakouts all together?

How do you stop from getting pimples on your but and under the arms? Certain soaps different skin conditions?
Same thing happens to me. I just put on a little moisturizing lotion daily and most of them improve.
Reply:You might me allergic to a soap or body wash. take note of what you're using and stop it for a bit. All the fruity soaps, scrubs, and washes irritated me just like that. I've had to use aloe based, milk and honey, non-fruity soaps and I've been fine.
Reply:Wash well, but maybe even more important, rinse and dry well! Use Caldesene medicated powder to help keep you dry. It helps me a lot. It's a pink cylindrical container with navy blue or royal blue lettering. White cap.

It works for all kinds of stuff!

Hi, can you tell me a natural remedy or aid for eczema, or severe dry skin conditions?

My son had eczema REALLY bad and it turned out that it was due to an allergy. We went to a doctor that does NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique) and his symptoms went away. He also had symptoms of Autism.... they are gone too. There is a book called Say Goodbye to Illness by Dr. Devi Nambudripad. Worth every penny.... you can also check the Library.

Hi, can you tell me a natural remedy or aid for eczema, or severe dry skin conditions?
they say best for dry skin is crisco shortening, or any brand- the least expensive-- will do
Reply:I have eczema, and it worsened when I moved from humid Louisiana to dry Colorado - the skin on my fingers were literally cracking. What I did was I used Mary Kay's Extra Emollient Night Cream (a very thick oily cream) whenever I would start to feel dry....good for dry patches, as well. It is relief. Also good to use are oils (baby oil or olive oil, etc.) b/c they will stop the itch if you've got it really bad. If you don't have any of those, you could even use petroleum jelly - especially when you are going to sleep at night, put it on your hands, for instance, and you can put some light cotton gloves over them and just sleep like that. When you wake up, your hands should feel great. Just some ideas for you.
Reply:A concentrated brew of stevia (an herb that is 30 times sweeter than sugar with no calories, and has great healing properties) leaves in water simmered down into a syrup helps. Also, I'll put a link to where you can buy a tonic to help with it. (It's a good brand... used other products and they work)

Did NBC test the Dragon Skin armor in conditions the Army said it failed?

I saw on NBC Dateline that they tested both Interceptor and Dragon Skin armor side by side. The Army said it failed in subzero and 120+ degree temps. I saw no mention of tests conducted by NBC or anyone else in the extreme conditions. It seems possible that adhesives could fail in those temp ranges.

Did NBC test the Dragon Skin armor in conditions the Army said it failed?
Dateline mentioned that they personally did not do those tests, but that the makers of Dragon Skin did. I'm not sure why they did an expose without following all the guidelines of the armies test.

It sounds like shoddy journalism to me. I would like to say that I am NOT negating their claims, it just would have been more convincing if they would have done more tests.
Reply:Put it this way, why would the special forces and contract soldiers all use dragon skin if it were bad like the army says. simple fact, they had a big contract with the other armor and corruption played a part yet again in not keeping our soldiers safe. I have a friend that is covert I will say it that way, and he says no doubt dragon skin is the best you can get. Calls the other stuff the fake armor. Talks about how happy he was when he went SF and he was going to get the real armor. money yet again... good ole greed.
Reply:Has anyone seen "Future Weapons" on the Discovery Channel. Now, while the armor might have failed the temperture tests the armor couldn't have failed the bullet tests. Unless the show was doctored, they showed that armor get pounded by tons of types of ammuntion. The final thing was shooting it with different rounds from different guns, from an automatic 9mm (not terribly impressive I know) all the way to some heavy duty armor piercing rounds. The final test was improvised by the show's host, who put the suit of armor on a dummy and had it lay on a grenade. They detonated the grenade and, sure enough, the armor did not breach through! Has someone else seen this episode, it makes me wonder whether the military is just too worried about spending the money on protecting its soldiers.

Keep in mind that the armor was destroyed, but it still protected the dummy...
Reply:im sry i didnt see that particular episode...but i saw an episode of 'mail call' where they tested dragon skin...

absolutely amazing...from 20 feet away they shot an automatic AK-47 and it withstood a full clip worth of bullets...
Reply:The Army is going to take it to the hill, the link below gives the Army's latest release.22/5/07
Reply:It has been proven in side by side tests that the Interceptor armor is superior to that of Dragon skin armor. It is more effective at stopping a wider array of ammunition more consistently. It provides superior "blast" protection from fragmentation. Though not as flexible, it is less bulky and weights 20 pounds less.

I find all this debate a little humorous in the fact that less than 10% of casualties have been caused by small arms and in most of those cases it wouldn't matter what body armor the soldier was wearing. If a blast can destroy a Bradley or Humvee any amount of body armor is not going to do much anyway and debating the minimal differences in these to armors is really more a political tool than anything else.

I have seen and worn both armors and prefer the Interceptor.
Reply:Neeno is right. Besides, Dragon Skin weighs 50 pounds.

How can you compare 2 things using different standards? I am not saying Dragon Skin is bad, but it is heavy and it does change its properties during extreme temperatures.

NBC did not do the test, by the way. Future Weapons and Mail Call did but the tests were simple and did not consider extreme conditions or angles.
Reply:No. First off, I'm not even convinced if they actually tested the correct vest. Dragon skin weighs in at 47 pounds, yet on the NBC test the lab guy slaps it up like its nothing. Also, they only fired on the vests from the front, where as army testing requires 2 shots to the front, back, and each side. Any failures results in a failed test. Dragon skin failed 13 times, Interceptor (current issue ) 0. NBC also has not released actual data, pictures yes, stunning videos yes, but no data that the NIJ and other governments would accept. No ammo data, testing procedures, where the fired on the vests (Dragon skin does not have its armor equally distributed it varies from 1-3 disks deep.), no nothing. Read my source for the army's testing.

I have a big White German Shepherd, i need feedback on possible skin conditions that are common forthis breed?

GSD's are prone to a host of allergies which affect the skin. causing hot spots( raw areas). my advice to you would be to take you dog to the vet to be tested, also check for fleas. in the mean time though you might want to look into a pet product made especially for hot spots there are quite a few on the market and can be found at most pet stores. you can also try giving your dog a bath with pet shampoo that has oatmeal in it to help relieve the itch...hope this helps you a bit!

I have a big White German Shepherd, i need feedback on possible skin conditions that are common forthis breed?
look it up on google or wikipedia
Reply:Skin conditions in dogs should be evaluated by a vet. There's a possibility he might need an antibiotic.
Reply:I don't know of any skin conditions that WGS dogs have that others don't. With horses, if they have white around their eyes and noses, they can get sunburned. A dogs hair is longer so they probably wouldn't be as proned. My WGS is a housedog so I don't have this problem.

Aren't they great dogs!

Does eating lots of fruits and vegetables can really help improve skin conditions?

It really depends on the individual. If you are lacking in certain type of vitamins or mineral, the fruits or vegetables that have that type of vitamins or mineral you need, it will work for you. Key thing is what do you need? Exposure to long hours of sunlight, not enough of body fluids can deteriorate your skin problems as well. As with lots of things in life, there isnt any one size fits all solutions.

What type of lighting is the safest for sensitive skin conditions?

It's not the lighting, it's the products you put on your skin. Find skin products that block UV rays that have NO parabins in them or the parabins will cause the cancer.

I have noticed most skateboarders have long hair, skin conditions and attitudes & skate in illegal places agree

most skateboarding is done on places were the skateboarders tresspass school steps ect... also most talk back and are rude and have no respect for authority.

are these youth just a horrible part of society or am I wrong on this one?

I have noticed most skateboarders have long hair, skin conditions and attitudes %26amp; skate in illegal places agree
You are right all skateboarders are spotty, rude trespassers.
Reply:Ever notice that skateboarding is illegal almost everywhere, but skateboarding is better than peddling drugs? So where is a skater supposed to skate when every urban and suburban playground puts up signs? No wonder they talk back and are rude! No wonder they have no respect! What a great part of society, the 6%ers!
Reply:You're wrong. I like to see these boys out skateboarding. At least they're out being active and getting exercise and not sitting in all day playing video games and watching t.v. I've never had a problem with any of them. As long as they don't try to run into me on their boards, that's fine. People ride bikes or roller blade on public streets, too, and nobody says anything about it.

And their looks have nothing to do with it either as far as I'm concerned. And you never see fat skateboarders. I wonder why that is. Possibly because they're out getting some exercise.
Reply:Damn disgrace. Why aren't they out joyriding or mugging old folk! At the very least some good old-fashioned harmless thieving!
Reply:My community has a skateboard park and it's enjoyed by all ages. Mostly teens and they are a nice group of kids, I really like to watch them. I perceive them as young people spending time together and enjoying themselves.

I'm sure that there are few who misbehave, but perhaps you need to step back and look at the situation from their perspective. Teens want your respect. It's hard to be lumped into a group and labeled "bad".

best of luck to you!

Anybody know any sites that show pictures of skin conditions/rashes and tell about them?

Ive noticed on my legs ive got red blotches all over, and if u look close they look like a bunch of little red dots but blotches all over. Thanx!

Anybody know any sites that show pictures of skin conditions/rashes and tell about them?
You could be allergic to something ie. detergent used for laundry. Doesn't sound serious, you probably have contact dermatitis which means you're allergic to something. Either topically or something you are eating. Don't use any product that contains fragrances or dyes. See your doctor, there are creams that will help you.

Has anyone used Hopes Relief cream for skin conditions??

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has tried or uses a product called Hopes Relief cream - generally used for eczma and psorisis (sp?). Any reviews on its effectiveness would be great and also an approximate price - Thanks : )

Has anyone used Hopes Relief cream for skin conditions??
The best treatment in the elimination of acne is to clean the skin by some medicated cleansers.

A cleanser removes the sweat, make-up, accumulated oil and dirt on the surface of the skin.

These cleansers makes easy for the topical acne treatments to absorb in the skin and too much use of these cleansers can result into irritated dry skin. So, these acne cleansers should be applied only once and twice daily.

Vigorous washing and scrubbing the skin can make the acne worse.

Can any breed of dog suffer with skin conditions?

Yes all dogs, of all breeds can get skin problems.

And yes, cross-breeds can get them too. The truth is cross-breeds are as likely, if not more likely to get them as they can easily get the 'problems' from both breeds.

Can any breed of dog suffer with skin conditions?
Anything with skin can!
Reply:Most def. esp dogs who are primarily white such as American Bulldogs. Allergies etc are hereditary so breeding an affected dog is not recommended.
Reply:Yes, all skin is prone to infections. I am not a vet but am a registered breeder of Rottweilers.

There are so many skin conditions out there that they could get such as yeast, fungus, mites, mange, fleas allergies,.... The list goes on and on.

What are the adverse treatable nail and skin conditions applicable to manicure and pedicure?

it doesn't treat fungal infections. the strong disinfectant that they put on your feet to stop infection spreading between clients may help clear it up, but i wouldnt call it a treatment.

manicures and pedicures can help with ingrown, and brittle nails, but that's about it

Follicel for the treatment of parasitic skin conditions in a guinea pig?

I've heard that this product works very well for mites...I am not sure and wanted to see if anyone used this product or have any experience with this product.

Follicel for the treatment of parasitic skin conditions in a guinea pig?
Never heard of it before. I wouldnt recommend using, stick to Ivermectin or Revolution as is explained here http://www.guinealynx.info/mites.html
Reply:Buzzare gave you correct advice.

I use Revolution on my pigs religiously. If you go to the vet, they will treat mites with Ivermectin. These are the only two treatments I've ever heard of for mites. Please err on the safe side %26amp; go with conventional treatments so that your piggie doesn't suffer needlessly should Follicel not be the correct treatment.

Reply:Yes any breed of dog can get skin conditions.

There are so many skin conditions out there that they could get such as yeast, fungus, mites, mange, fleas allergies,.... The list goes on and on.
Reply:Yes, of course, mostly caused by either allergies, or parasites.

What are nivas? it's a skin conditions and i'm not sure it's spelled right.?

the doctor said i would have to go to cosmetic dermetologist to fix that. tiny little bumps in a small area.

What are nivas? it's a skin conditions and i'm not sure it's spelled right.?
A nevi (s) is a mole that can be congenital ( born with), that occurs at birth or develops shortly after birth. Treatment of congenital nevi depends on the size of the mole (s), location, or perceived risk for melanoma ( to change from a normal mole to a precancerous or cancerous mole), and cosmetic outcome. Signs of malignant ( cancerous) include sudden development of a nodule ( a lump), an ulcer ( the mole becomes an open sore), or itching within the mole, as well as pain, bleeding, and color change. It is best that you are evaluated by a Cosmetic Dermatologist as this is one of their specialties. I hope that this helps. Here's a web:

Reply:My brother was born with a nevis, but it disappeared as he grew up. If yours haven't gone in adulthood, then you can have them removed (if they bother you).

Any dermatologists/anyone who knows about skin conditions out there?

I have what appear to be 2 whiteheads (but they're not, they just look to be very tiny whiteheads or blisters even) under my eye. They're only visible when I look at myself in the mirror, they're that small (or when somebody looks at me closeup I suppose). One has been there forever and one just showed up. Does anybody know what they could be and how I could get rid of them?

Any dermatologists/anyone who knows about skin conditions out there?
I despise these doctors but you have to get to a dermatologist to have the doc determine from his experience what it is. To vague to answer here. Docs don't work for free so you wont get one to answer this here.Moe

Looking for New Skin Care Product that cures Exzema, and other skin conditions, made with Hyssops?

Hi Buck

Here are some remedies for your condition. Also testimonials at the bottom.

Cause

1.Cleansing the Skin: The skin is a very important part of the body; it is an "extra kidney," an extra set of lungs for breathing, and has many other functions. We should keep it in a good condition, important as it is, but we usually treat it shamefully. Cleanliness is next to Godliness, and the skin should be bathed daily. This does not mean to use soap with each bathing, unless it is a natural type biodegradable liquid soap. Nearly all bar soaps do more damage to the skin than they aid it, by leaving residue of the soap to clog the pores. The pores are the doors and windows of the temple and must be kept open to let in oxygen (the breath of life) and to excrete toxins and waste.

2.Diet and Use of Natural Fibers: A person who uses lots of mucus foods has a gluey, sticky type perspiration. When this individual sweats and the body is not cleaned regularly, the dried sweat clogs the pores. This is a beginning cause of dermatitis, or skin malfunction. In addition, as a nation we have fallen in love with easy to wash and iron synthetic clothes. These rob the body of the breath of life because manmade synthetic fibers do not "breathe." Only natural fibers such as cotton, wool, linen, silk, etc., can allow the skin to breathe properly.

3.Diet: These are two of our big problems; the third one is a diet devoid of wholesome foods. We use man's prepared materials, called food, that have been contaminated and processed, and in so many cases, should be classified as "junk food." All aids to fighting dermatitis work better and faster if we consider the first three things mentioned--bathe regularly, return to natural fibers to wear, and eat wholesome foods

Herbal Aids

1.Poke Root: Use the liniment or the infusion as a wash, and drink internally. Formula for liniment and infusion.

2.See formula for skin afflictions using burdock root, yellow dock, yarrow and marshmallow.

3.See formula for skin afflictions for a decoction using burdock root, centaury, fumitory, yellow dock and cayenne.

4.See formula using garlic, glycerine and burdock seeds.

5.Sun: Helios-therapy on the skin is very important, as the sun is the Great Doctor of all times. But this therapy must always be done with caution because the sun (though being a healer) is like fire, which can either provide gentle warmth or it can burn a city down. The sun will heal where medicinal aids, herbs and other procedures are slower. In many instances, it will bring skin cancer to the surface; and various other skin problems (such as acne, eczema, etc.) are beneficially aided by bathing in the sun. The internal use of tea of other herbal aids are often an herbal wash before the sunbathing are congenial and excellent.

6.Chickweed or Plantain: For eczema and other skin problems, use a fomentation over the irritated area made with chickweed tea and/or plantain, burdock root, Oregon grape root, and echinacea--covered with plastic. Or bathe the area with the tea a number of times during the day. Chickweed or plantain ointment is an aid for small outbreaks. Drink a cup of the tea two or three times or more a day. To each cup of the tea you drink add three to six drops of tincture of lobelia.

7.Walnut: A wonderful aid to relieve cases of dermatitis is found in the walnut family, using black walnut hulls or leaves or bark (Juglans nigra), English walnut (Juglans regia), or butternut (Juglans cinerea). Treat the skin malfunctions the same as with number six.

8.Golden Seal: Take one ounce of powdered golden seal root and mix thoroughly with nine ounces of linseed oil. Use the medicinal linseed oil from the health food store or drug store; do not use linseed oil from the paint store or hardware store--apply freely, externally. Use as an oral aid white poplar bark (Populus tremutoides--also known as quaking aspen), one cup three times in a day.

9.Dr. Christopher's Bone, Flesh and Cartilage: (BF%26amp;C) For the most severe cases of skin diseases in the advanced stage, use a combination we have called Bone, Flesh and Cartilage combination, internally and externally. Repeat procedure. Make the tea, soak flannel, cotton, or any white material other than synthetic--never use synthetic--wrap fomentation (soaked cloth) around the malfunctioning area and cover with plastic or wax paper, leave on all night six days a week and for as many weeks as needed until relief appears. Then continue a week or two for severe cases. Drink one fourth cup of finished concentrated tea with three fourths cup of distilled water three times or more each day.

10.Dr. Christopher's Chickweed Ointment: This is made of chickweed herb and bees wax and oils. Excellent for eczema and/or other skin infections, sores, burning, itchy skin or genitals, swollen testes, acne, hives, also for ulceration of mouth and throat. This is a wonderful healing ointment.

11.See formula to make a liniment using peppermint, olive oil, menthol and camphor.

12.Plantain: For skin diseases that result in scrofula or eczema, use the tea internally as a blood cleanser and use the strong tea externally as a wash. If the skin is not oily, you can use the ointment topically to affected areas.

13.Juices for Eczema: Carrot %26amp; cucumber.

14.Cabbage Leaves: Cabbage leaves applied to an infected wound, ulcer, or oozing eczema should be layered like roof shingles, allowing secretions to drain between the layers.

15.Tarragon: Soothing for eczema and scurvy.

16.Dr. Christopher's Healing Ointment: (CMM) Made of comfrey, marshmallow, marigold, bee's wax, and oils, this is an antiseptic to be used on lesions, eczema (dry), poison ivy, soothes inflamed surfaces, abrasions, burns, hemorrhoids, for bruises and swellings. Good to have on hand at all times.

Testimonials

1.BF%26amp;C cures skin problem worse than eczema: One day a lady came into my office in a frantic state of near hysteria. She told me that her fourteen-year-old daughter was at home and some neighbor ladies were with her, to keep her from doing harm to herself. That morning the mother had stopped her daughter from committing suicide. The girl, for several years, had a severe dermatitis that had baffled the family physician, dermatologists and allergy specialists. The skin problem was from the knees down to her feet, the arms from elbows down over the hands, and her neck and face were also covered with this dermatitis condition. The dermatologists said it was different from pityriasis, psoriasis, eczema, etc., and had no name for this thick, heavy scaling from which the girl was suffering. This young girl had become a recluse, refusing to go to school, church, parties, etc., and because of this terrible condition which was called "incurable" she was eating herself into an extremely oversized individual. The despair she was suffering was pushing her into a suicidal frame of mind.

I had never had such a case presented to me before and my "back was up against the wall." This was an emergency and I did not have the time to sit in a laboratory and figure out a combination to try on her. I offered a quick silent prayer for help and a formula came immediately to my mind. As it came I had the lady and her companion write it down. I told them to go to an herb shop or health food store and get the various herbs, mix them, and make a fomentation. She was to foment the legs, arms, neck and face areas, and also to have the daughter drink some of the tea. I felt confident enough to promise good results!

It was on a Tuesday morning that the mother had come to see me. On Friday the report came back that the scabs and scales had left the afflicted areas and the girl's skin had a good "healing glow" to it. The next message I received was six months later. The girl was now a choir leader at the school she had returned to, and she was again busy in church and social activities.

This particular group of herbs is one we called "bone, flesh and cartilage" formula. We found it would do many things besides skin problems.

2.Cabbage Leaves: A watchmaker suffered for a year with a painful eczema of both hands, preventing him from working. The lesions were acutely inflamed, and the fingernails were separating, about to fall off. Applications of cabbage leaves twice daily for a few days brought relief from pain, as clear fluid drained onto the dressing. With continued treatment healing took place within two months.

3.Newborn Cured of Eczema: At one of Dr. Christopher's lectures, a woman brought a bundle to the front, a little baby all wrapped up. She unwrapped the bundle, and as she did, eczema scalings flew up all around dusted Dr. Christopher's dark suit. The baby was simply covered with eczema; he described it as horrible to see. The family had adopted the baby six months previous, and it was entirely covered with the scaling, evidently from birth. The family had employed their usual doctor, a pediatrician, and a skin specialist, but no one could do a thing for the little sufferer.

Dr. Christopher told the mother to fill a bassinet with warm Chickweed tea and to bathe the baby, pouring the tea over the head that could not be submerged. The mother was also to give Chickweed tea internally, in small amounts.

Within just a matter of days, the baby began to improve, and after a week or two, the eczema disappeared completely, though the child had suffered with it so many months.

Best of health to you

Cheers

There is no known cure for eczema but I used to have it on my hands pretty bad and I found that pure shea butter really helps a lot. Also olive oil. Try to stay away from anything frangranced because that makes the itching and irritation worse
Reply:Our doctor told us to use Cetaphil cream (in the tub) for Eczema. It is really thick, a little goes a long ways.

Laser treatment for bad skin conditions, particulary excema?

I'm probably just dreaming but is there? If so, has anyone here had it? And has it worked?

Laser treatment for bad skin conditions, particulary excema?
There are lots of treatments for excema and psoriasis including creams, tablets, injections %26amp; UV light treatment.

There are laser treatments but it's normally only done for people with extremely severe psoriasis not excema as it can lead to worse problems than the excema it is treating, you could probably get it done privately altho that would be very expensive.

A dermatologist (skin doctor) will be able to give you creams (always prescribed first of all) many cases of excema are cleared with these creams, the tablets %26amp; light treatment are for severe cases again due to the possible worse side effects such as liver failure (certain tablets) and permenant skin damage due to the light treatments.

Give the doctor prescribed skin creams a try first, the side effects of the other treatments can be worse than the skin condition it's treating
Reply:There is laser treatment for acne, but I've never heard of laser treatment for excema. Best advice I could give is try a good emollient like E45, failing that speak to a dermatologist. Your GP should be able to recommend one.
Reply:Please see the webpage for more detais on Eczema. Laser has been used to destroy tumour cells. Laser has been successfuly used in the detachment of retina. Improperly used, laser can be extremely dangerous.

If you cant handle worms and skin conditions dont bother with this case?
Well I did quite a bit of research to determine what you were referring to as the video link is cut off at the end and I had to do some guesswork to figure it out.

The video you linked is one of 'Trichiniasis'. Without getting too gruesome essentially what happens is that wild game and sometimes pigs will contract a type of roundworm parasite. This is then transfered to other animals via ingestion. It doesn't happen often in developed countries because the process of cooking meat would burn off the larva. The ingested larva then enters the the body through the digestive tract and spreads throughout although it can only survive in certain types of muscle.

This can be guaranteed to be avoided by:

Cooking meat products to an internal temperature of 165 °F

The ointment put on their faces is:

I have no idea, it was mentioned it might've been rubbing alcohol although I believe it was a chemical a little bit more specific to the situation

Likelyhood of anyone having this problem:

Little to none if you've got internet access. The US has an average of 300 cases a year and most are likely to undercooked meat obtained through hunting or through personally owned animals (like a farm).
Reply:Yeah, I've seen that video a few months ago..and I cook my pork very well done now..but yes, it's very rare I've heard too..

Do cats get get skin conditions that cause it to lose chunks of hair?
yeah...i forget what it's called...ah...my friends cat had something like that...they put her on medicine, and i guess that helped a lot...
Reply:It could be any number of things, from a fungal infection like ringworm, or an allergy from food or just skin dermatitis. Have your vet check him out, and get him there as soon as you can-not emergency-but so it doesn't get out of control. Good luck
Reply:i had an elderly cat who had arthritis and was in a lot of pain, he would chew off tufts of his fur.....your may also have a skin condition (allergy?)......take him/her to vet
Reply:he might have a disease from bugs or something he got in to. Take him to the vet and get that checked out.
Reply:Definitely. It can be an allergy or even a nervous issue. Best to see your vet or a animal natural therapist.
Reply:It could be an allergy to fleas. I had a cat who had fleas and was losing a lot of fur. I took him to the vet and he diagnosed it immediately. He gave me some medication to treat the fleas and the hair loss stopped.
Reply:Yes, cats get skin conditions. Or they might be suffering from fleas causing them to scratch so hard, fur starts falling off with the fleas.

I want to prevent skin conditions that seem to occur often on me, can you help?

I'm recently ending up with a lot of boils in strange areas, one of these areas is my nipple. I am unsure of why they are coming about often like this and I want to know if there is something I can take (supplement) or something I could eat to help prevent boils. I am keeping clean and washing my clothes often. I also use a gentle astringent on them to lessen the swelling/pain.

I want to prevent skin conditions that seem to occur often on me, can you help?
It could be that you have an infection somewhere in your body, such as an abscessed tooth. You might want to talk to your doctor about the cause. Also, applying warm, moist heat, such as a warm washcloth, will help ease the pain and possibly get them to bust through a little faster.
Reply:go to the docter!
Reply:cocanut oil! rub it on your body let it soak in and you skin is soft and this also helps you body health wise too.

West highland white terrier skin conditions?

Westies are well known for having several skin problems.. You didn't say wheter it is warts/cycts, or itching..or bare spots or sore and red...

Perhaps this site will help you identify the problem.

If your dog is itching, scratchiing, and chewing her skin, this is a symptom of canine Atopy.. This is a good site to help you understand and deal with this condition..

http://www.petalia.com.au/Templates/Stor...

At this season, it is likely to be pollen related or mold/mildew..But household cleaners often aggravate the condition..chemicals such as Swiffer Wet jet, Carpet cleaners, air fresheners, etc..

It may be of help to feed a food that doesn't contain corn or wheat.

West highland white terrier skin conditions?
After years of going to a vet with my Westie for itching, we finally put him on a duck and potatoe dog food . That seems to help. Good luck. Report It

Reply:Chetco's answer is correct, we have 2 westies and their biting and nibbling occurs usually with the food they have anything with cereals in it (wheat, corn etc.) or beef products.
Reply:Terriers have alot of skin problems. I had a cairn terrier and every spring he would lose the hair on his hind quarters from itching and biting. The vet gave me wht he called" itchy pills" it was some type of allergy tablet. Also, hydrocortisone will help to heal it and stop itching if you spray him with that or it comes in creme form also. Neosporin will help to heal the bad spots also. If I were you I'd get him to the vet. They can give you the specifics for your particular dog.

Adult males only: skin conditions due to diabetes?

damn, losing 5 points for this;

due to diabetes, I have discovered I have a rash in my genitalia area. are there/is there/any other adult males with this situation?

and yes, I have a topical cream for it.

thanks

Adult males only: skin conditions due to diabetes?
Whilst not suffering this particular problem I hope it might be of interest to you to take a look at the information about balancing your body pH. The theory, which has paid off big time for many diabetes sufferers, relates to reducing the acidity of your body. The expert in this matter made a great presentation and the videos can be seen here:

http://www.gonando.com/alkaline-foods.ht...

You should pick up on the diabetes references and if you want to know more about the whole approach which should have positive impact on both your akin and general health then you could look at the key publication 'pH Miracle for Diabetes' which is very helpful:

http://astore.amazon.com/usastore1-20/de...

NOTE: Added -- I should say that if you decide to follow this protocol it has proven to be very effective in dealing with yeast problems if indeed that is what is triggering the skin problem.
Reply:ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Reply:YEAST infections are common when diabetes is not controlled. If this is the source of your rash, you will need an anti-yeast ointment, and, you should closely monitor your blood sugar.
Reply:Well guy, I have type two and at 67 am starting to have those problems. I have found that Preponderation H Helps heal the rash and deaden the itching. Also something you may never think of Vagicil cream does darn good job of stopping the itch.
Reply:I haven't heard of this and diabetes being connected. try "Lamisil" a OTC medication. most problems are yeast infection, or a fungus. This is the same one you get between your toes, just in a more painful area. cleaning up after sex is a must! drying with a clean towel and then it goes to get washed. Don't reuse a towel with this infection. topical creams are just wat they say, feel good creams, you need a better product to stop this in it's tracts.

What kind of skin conditions should I look for, regarding melanoma?

Malignant melanoma usually begins as a mottled, light brown to black flat blemish with irregular edges and is at least one-quarter inch in size. It can turn red, blue or white, or bleed and crust on the surface.

Melanoma can occur on any skin surface. In men, it is often found on the trunk (the area from the shoulders to the hips) or the head and neck. In women, melanoma often develops on the lower legs. Melanoma is rare in black people and others with dark skin. When it does develop in dark-skinned people, it tends to occur under the fingernails or toenails, or on the palms or soles.

Often, the first sign of melanoma is a change in the size, shape, color, or feel of an existing mole. Most melanomas have a black or blue-black area. Melanoma also may appear as a new, black, abnormal, or "ugly-looking" mole

The list of signs and symptoms mentioned in various sources for Melanoma includes those listed below. Note that Melanoma symptoms usually refers to various symptoms known to a patient, but the phrase Melanoma signs may refer to those signs only noticable by a doctor:

Melanoma can start in a mole or in normal skin

Unusual mole features

Change in a mole

Abnormal mole - e.g. an "ugly" mole

ABCD mole features - asymmetry, border, color and diameter.

Asymmetric mole - irregularly shaped mole

Mole edge irregularity

Mole color irregularity - the color of the mole is variable

Mole diameter - a large mole with a wide diameter

Growing mole

Newly pigmented skin area

Darkened area under nail .

Reply:if your mole or freakle has darkened or changed size, is itchy, sorry i cant remember the other things. oh if the mole is 'meaty' and has hairs growing in it they dont develop melanoma. one of mine change size and i went to the doctor and she told me that, and not to worry about it. it's more the freckle type ones you have to worry about. If you are in any doubt go to your doctor they will be able to tell you just by looking at it if it is anything to worry about. good luck

Why are skin conditions worse in winter?

How will it be in summer?? x]

Like, chapped lips and dandruff gets worse.

Why are skin conditions worse in winter?
I don't know about summer, but in winter, the dryness in the air makes our skin and lips dry. Keep lotion and a good lip balm on hand at all times.

What skin conditions are related to small red dots and expanding moles and freckles?

I've been gaining Freckles that seem to be expanding every few days I notice more freckles I never noticed before and they

I'm noticing a lot more really light dots, and the light dots usualkly get darker as time goes on. I was told they are just sun spots, it jus feels like I'll turn brown at this rate. Why the red spots that looks like blood just under the surface. very small. I havn't seen anything like it before...

I thought it might be cancer..

is it just sun spots or could it be something else?

What skin conditions are related to small red dots and expanding moles and freckles?
of course it could be anything, more than likely you have the kind of skin that you should really document your moles and whatever else is going on and see a dermatologist once a year. People with "lots" (over 100) of moles and fair skin and freckles are more prone to skin cancer--so you should be aware . My husband has this type of skin and gets about 4 moles whacked off every year and he has never had skin cancer but they always check for it and tell him to come back in one year. Some things to be concerned about in moles is

assymetry--not even or not a perfect circle

multi colored moles--especially with black in them

uneven edges --like a side that sort of fades into the skin

changes--any change in shape or color or size

this is not all inclusive. Also, don't get paranoid about it--we find weird moles and think for sure they are cancerous and it has turned out they are not. You probably want to see a dermatologist to get some better info and a diagnosis if needed.

On the other hand, I'm relatively dark skinned for a white person and when I was in my mid-30's I started noticing a few dark spots on my cheeks and legs and determined they are sun spots also known as age spots. But they are brown and not red. Dr. is not concerned about that. These seem to be more of a cosmetic issue if anything.
