Strange skin condition?

Here's one for you. I'm in my 50s. About ten years ago I developed this condition where a patch of my skin becomes sensitive to the touch. I feel it when even modest pressure is applied, like from a pants leg while I'm walking. It's not painful, more like a prickly feeling, as though someone is gently pushing a wire brush into my skin surface. The skin area is usually about twice the size of a playing card and always on my lower extremities. Usually on a thigh or hip. An episode lasts about ten days to two weeks and finally disappears. I've had about twelve, maybe fifteen of these occurrences over the last eight or ten years. There is no rash, redness, or anything visibly abnormal. And I otherwise feel fine. It doesn't seem like a serious condition but it is a little annoying. Anyone have anything similar, or have any clues they can pass on?

Strange skin condition?
This is deffinately a nerve condition. Skin has nothing to do with this. As the above person suggested, it could be connected to a possible lower back problem which is quite common amongst people who are 40 years or older. A quick visit to a chiropractor and sort this out. Every person, healthy ones too, should have a visit to get their spine aligned. It's like getting your teeth checked once every six months.

I would also make sure my blood pressure is under control.
Reply:Do you have lower back pain or sciatica? Quite often when my husband has back pain/sciatica, he gets some nerve "pain" in the area between his hip and thigh.
Reply:This is something you should mention to your doctor as you have had recurring episodes over an extended period of time.

Sometimes gradual nerve damage can cause these sorts of symptoms. It could even be a form of neuritis.
